UPSR vs. BLSR - Cisco Community My opinion is that UPSR rings are superior because they carry 48 STS channels on both high speed optics, whereas BLSR pushes 24 channels over each fiber while 4F BLSR rings provide superior protection to UPSR rings, the facilities cost is greatly increased because you must provide twice as much fiber to each node
